It's so sad that second-hand bookshops are closing down everywhere - now regional towns like King's Lynn no longer have one. The three in the row of Leipzig houses which included my hotel are all superb, governed by a typical German order.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14506881804082382739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1248503935075362425.post-55721235687077106172018-03-22T19:59:51.533+00:002018-03-22T19:59:51.533+00:00I have again fallen behind, but am so pleased fina...I have again fallen behind, but am so pleased finally to come take your Leipzig music walk, if only virtually. On reading it, I have a vague recollection of something I read in, I think, Magris’s Danube about him discovering the bust of Mendelssohn abandond on rooftop during WWII. Probably my memory is terribly faulty on this, however! Your view from the hotel room was indeed splendid, and to think of second hand bookshops nearby, too. How rare that has become.Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15674930917585246294noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1248503935075362425.post-20398118404048924642018-03-15T10:34:37.572+00:002018-03-15T10:34:37.572+00:00Yes, Will, the Nikolaikirche had a different reson...Yes, Will, the Nikolaikirche had a different resonance because of its amazing recent history. I think I mentioned in the Bach piece that the Pastor had written so beautifully in the church leaflet about the peaceful revolution. And the precincts are more interesting because of all the bookshops behind it and the liveliness of the square between the church and its school (where young Wagner was 'educated'). Next time I'll attend one of the meditation services if I have time. Still lots more to see in Leipzig, especially in the spring or summer as the parks look beautiful.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14506881804082382739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1248503935075362425.post-60658116744060418462018-03-14T21:43:28.321+00:002018-03-14T21:43:28.321+00:00As always you take me on a delightful journey with...As always you take me on a delightful journey with you and for that I give you thanks. I honestly preferred the Nikolaikirche. We attended a concert there as well as one of the Words and Music meditation services that I always found so moving in visits to Germany. 1000 grazie.
