I know there are those who find Kiefer subject to German bombast, but for me the forms perfectly suit the subject-matter. No-one else I know in the art world thinks on the Wagnerian scale like this.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14506881804082382739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1248503935075362425.post-21438184473638894252017-03-01T23:08:25.506+00:002017-03-01T23:08:25.506+00:00How I envy you having been able to see this exhibi...How I envy you having been able to see this exhibit. You give a wonderful sense, even from this far away, of how spectacular it was. I'm so glad you thought to take photos from various angles to show us the textures.Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15674930917585246294noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1248503935075362425.post-30188729346429965902017-02-23T21:54:58.145+00:002017-02-23T21:54:58.145+00:00I'd never seen the Turner, and it tells me tha...I'd never seen the Turner, and it tells me that Walhalla is actually on the river. As for Walkuere at Bayreuth, I hear such good things of the Ring in Nuremberg (I know the Brunnhilde, Rachael Tovey, a Guildhall graduate and now a company member, though the raves weren't from her). It must be a lot cheaper than Bayreuth, which of course is worse seeing, to say the least, even if, I gather, that Ring is not. Easy excursion from there to Bamberg, Germany's most beautiful town/city (that I've seen, at any rate). When I was there in 1990 we took an excursion to Disneyfied Rothenburg ob der Tauber. 'Franconian Switzerland' was lovely, but given the choice I'd say Bamberg first, no choice. Nuremberg was badly bombed, and I only passed through it while InterRailing in the 1980s (burgers at midnight in the company of a cheerful black American soldier); it's more cosmopolitan, I believe.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14506881804082382739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1248503935075362425.post-31096810134078147562017-02-23T17:44:17.820+00:002017-02-23T17:44:17.820+00:00Yes, a W+K+J Ring ... love the dream. Remember Turner's shimmery rendering of 1842 opening at the Turner exhib? <br />http://www.tate.org.uk/art/images/work/N/N00/N00533_10.jpgDilys Pagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04779853968590533052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1248503935075362425.post-72390922876638564042017-02-23T09:36:36.618+00:002017-02-23T09:36:36.618+00:00Wigglesworth/Kiefer/Jones Ring, you mean, Dilys? Bitterly disappointed & now trying to find out whether it has moved somewhere reachable. No luck so far - how can I find out where it's gone? And when do we get a Wigglesworth/Kiefer Ring ...
